Web services advertise one price and charge another: a $2.99/mo plan that quietly renews at $17.99/mo is standard industry practice, and virtually every "review" site ranking these products earns commissions that discourage mentioning it. We built a machine that visits every provider's pricing page daily, records both the advertised and the renewal price, and publishes the history — so the renewal trap is measurable, comparable, and impossible to quietly change.
A small independent research operation. The scraping, diffing, and page generation run unattended on our own hardware; humans review findings, write the editorial, and answer email. We plan to earn affiliate commissions (see disclosure) — but grades and rankings are computed from measured pricing alone, and several providers we grade highest pay us nothing.
